The purpose of the Student Paper Award is to recognize the outstanding paper prepared and submitted by a Student Member. The paper receiving the Student Paper Award will be published in the SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal and identified as the award-winning paper, giving recognition to the author and the institution at which the work was done.
The 2019 Student Paper Award is awarded to Oscar Eduardo Estrada Torrejon and Nicholas Peretti for the paper, "Rotoscope Automation with Deep Learning."
Originally from Pasadena, CA, Nicholas recently graduated from RIT with a major in Software Engineering and a minor in Imaging Science. While at RIT he worked for one year with Apple Inc. in Cupertino, CA starting with the Photography group then spending six months with the CVML team. He is currently head of machine learning at Scythe Robotics based in Boulder, CO, which is creating a self-driving lawn mower for golf courses and municipalities. When not interacting with a computer, Nick likes basketball and snowboarding.
