Honoree Bio
David Crawford holds professorships at the Universities of Essex at Colchester and Ravensbourne in London, U.K. Crawford has been working across the telecom/broadcast industries and U.K. academic institutions for more than 50 years. His research interests are in new imaging techniques, applications for mixed reality technologies, and multimedia services ‘beyond-HD’ networks. Crawford works with cutting-edge inventions and innovations, featuring the best of these at the annual IBC Conference in Amsterdam in the “Future Zone” exhibition. In his academic roles, Crawford facilitates and lectures on Degree Apprenticeship courses, strongly believing in work-based teaching curricula and collaborative industry-academia initiatives for engineering trainees. Crawford has worked in senior positions at the Marconi Company, BT, RE, Crown Castle, and Harris Broadcast and was the director of a small start-up company, TeamCast, in France. He also operates his own technical consultancy company “Telecoms Technologies,” chairs and regularly presents at international events. Crawford is a Member of the Royal Television Society, a member of SMPTE, and is an ex-Council/Board member of the Institute of Engineering & Technology (IET).
