You’ve probably seen live images for the International Space Station (ISS), but how do they do it? The ISS is 254 miles above the Earth traveling at a maximum speed of 17, 150 mph. It rotates ~ 4 degrees per minute as it orbits the Earth, keeping its underside pointing towards the ground, but it doesn’t pass over the same locations on Earth during every orbit. Talk about a moving target!

During this session, you will learn how live HD and 4K images are transmitted to Earth despite the significant challenges of distance, speed, and technology. You will also learn how the images are distributed once they are “on the ground” to create interactive conversations with the ISS astronauts.
