DESCRIPTION:ATSC 3.0 is the new DTT standard that will be deployed in the U
SA in 2020. Based on a full IP stack\, ATSC 3.0 offers new uses cases & bu
siness perspectives to broadcasters and will involve deploying a complete
new broadcast infrastructure in place of the current ATSC 1.0. In this new
DTT architecture\, the broadcast gateway\, also named Scheduler\, is the
strategic component of ATSC 3.0 \n\nLocated at the broadcast playout cente
r or studio side\, the broadcast gateway encapsulates multiple IP Streams
coming from live HEVC encoders and Non-Real Time servers – EPG\, interacti
ve applications…- using ROUTE or MMTP protocols\; Ensuring the ALP (ATSC L
ayer Protocol) encapsulation\, the BBFrame real time allocation\, it outpu
ts the resulting ATSC-compliant STLTP (Studio to Transmitter Link Transpor
t Protocol) stream over IP.\n\nThe broadcast gateway has also to interface
with signaling servers and packagers\, and manages automatically the ATSC
3.0 signaling from different LLS (Low Layer Signaling)\, including the au
tomatic generation and delivery of the SLT (Service List Table) to ensure
the exact description of the on-air services.\n\nFinally\, the broadcast g
ateway should support all ATSC 3.0 modulation profiles - all modulation’s
capabilities - from simple subframe and single PLP\, to multiple subframe
and multiple PLPs\, including the advanced management of LDM (Layer Divisi
on Multiplex)\, synchronize and preconfigure all transmitters on field to
ensure the Single Frequency Network implementation. At the end\, it allows
Broadcasters to have the entire possibility to choose its signal coverage
and robustness\, targeting simultaneously multiple receivers’ capabilitie
s within one RF channel\, offering different business models for a network
.\n\nThrough this paper\, ENENSYS Technologies\, market and technology lea
der in ATSC 3.0\, proposes to share its unique experience of all ATSC 3.0
deployments and trials that have been setup in South Korea and in the USA\
, with the objective to present in a simple way all the technical points i
nvolved by a ATSC 3.0 broadcast network roll out.
